Help shape Plymouth’s disability adaptation services

Plymouth City Council are launching an important consultation about how they deliver disability adaptations across Plymouth, and they need your help to spread the word and get involved.

Last year Plymouth City Council secured £3 million in funding to provide disability adaptations in homes across the city through Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). These grants help residents with disabilities make essential changes to their homes – from installing ramps and hoists to adapting bathrooms and kitchens – enabling them to live safely and independently.

Over the past three years, Council teams have supported more than 500 adaptations in Plymouth homes, making a real difference to people’s daily lives. They’ve recently filmed Teresa, one of our residents, showing how a new ramp installation has transformed her ability to access her home independently.

“Every week, I see first-hand how these adaptations change lives. Whether it’s helping someone shower safely or simply get in and out of their home easily, these adaptations have an enormous impact. But we know we can always do better. That’s why we need colleagues across the council to help us reach more residents who could benefit from this service and share their views through the consultation.”
