Local GP joins national committee of health and social care champion

Dr Joanna Bircher is now a member of the Healthwatch England Committee.

Since completing her medical training in the late 1990s, Dr Joanna Bircher has become an advocate for improving the quality of care provided by GPs and their teams.

In addition to treating patients and training other GPs, Joanna is involved in several local and national initiatives to improve the work of GPs and their teams. These include collaborating with her local NHS, the Royal College of GPs, and the Health Foundation.

Her accomplishments include an appointment as Clinical Director for the Greater Manchester GP Excellence Programme, a role she has held since 2017. This partnership aims to support over 400 GP practices to find and deliver innovations in front-line care.

Commenting on Dr Bircher’s appointment, Healthwatch England chief executive Louise Ansari said:

"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Joanna Bircher to our committee. Dr Bircher is an expert in healthcare innovation and has a strong history of helping frontline staff provide better care for their communities.

"With NHS services on the verge of significant reform, her experience as a GP and dedication to improving patient care will make a real difference in helping us advocate for the changes that the public wants to see."
